Dr. Richard Berg talking about preventative dentistry in Lititz, PA with a patient

As your family dentist in Lititz, PA, Dr. Berg wants you and your smile to be in tip-top shape. This is not only because he values each patient as a family member, but also for the long-term benefits a healthy smile can provide. • Dental Hygiene

Receiving the highest level of service with high-quality dental work is our top priority. This includes ensuring you have an excellent and personal oral hygiene routine. Your teeth aren’t the only important part of your mouth. Your gums are the foundation of your smile. At our office, we can help you establish a quality hygiene routine to keep your teeth and gums healthy. This includes visiting our dental office every six months for dental hygiene appointments, and we even provide periodontal cleanings if you’re experiencing signs of gum disease.

  • Periodontal Therapy

Gum disease starts out as plaque, which forms into tartar. The tartar harbors harmful bacteria that attacks the soft tissues around your gums. If left untreated, you could lose your teeth.

Not to worry! Our periodontal therapy is a gentle way to prevent gum disease from worsening. This includes the removal of plaque and tartar, scaling and root planing, and polishing your teeth. Depending on the severity of your gum disease, Dr. Berg will determine how often you should visit our office for periodontal maintenance.

  • Sealants

Your back molars are the most vulnerable to cavities and decay because they are hard to reach when brushing and flossing. Thankfully, sealants are a great way to protect against tooth decay.

It’s recommended to place sealants as soon as your child’s first molars erupt to ensure they are protected early. However, we also provide sealants for adults as well.

Sealants are noninvasive because they’re painted right on the tooth. We’ll use special dental equipment to hardened the sealant material, creating that barrier between your tooth and any plaque and food particles, helping prevent decay.

  • Mouthguards

If you or your child play any contact sports (football, hockey, basketball, etc.), mouthguards are an essential piece of equipment to protect teeth. Why? Mouthguards are customized to snuggly fit around the contours of your teeth to prevent damage to your teeth, jaw, and other injuries.

While you can get “boil and bite” mouthguards in most sporting goods stores, we must stress the concept of “buyer beware.” Mouthguards like this don’t provide the protection because they are ill-fitting and uncomfortable.

For the highest level of protection, our Lititz dental office offers custom-fitted mouthguards. They’re created specifically for your mouth, allowing for a comfortable fit, high-quality security, and ability to communicate with your fellow teammates.

  • Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer screenings are a vital part of your appointments with Dr. Berg. With our modern technology, we can catch early signs of oral cancer before it gets worse and becomes potentially deadly.

We use an ultraviolet light or similar device to detect abnormalities within your mouth that cannot be detected by the human eye. If we do identify any early signs of oral cancer, we’ll sit down with you to discuss which steps to take.

It’s important to schedule your bi-annual visits with Dr. Berg to get an oral cancer screening – it could save your life.

Dr. Berg makes great decisions but ultimately leaves the final decision to you. I needed braces and he suggested 4 or 5 different places I could go and then I made the final decision. If you are looking for a dentist and team that has great chair side manner and are fun to be around this is the place to go.
